Enter the Te Aupounamu Maori Screen Excellence Award

The Maori Screen Excellence Award will offer a maximum of a $50,000 grant to one recipient. Nominate yourself or someone else through the NZFC application portal; anyone can submit a nomination but nominees must be M?ori and actively participating in the film industry in New Zealand or overseas.

Deadline: 1pm Monday, 25 January 2021

Te Aupounamu M?ori Screen Excellence Award has been established alongside Te Rautaki M?ori o Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga; the New Zealand Film Commission's M?ori Strategy. The annual award is a way of recognising and celebrating members of the M?ori filmmaking community who have displayed a high-level contribution and/or achievement in filmmaking.

The award is open to writers, directors, producers, heads of department and screen industry representatives.

Enjoy this chance to watch director/writer Dictynna Hood's interesting indie Us Among The Stones, completely free on YouTube until 18 December. The plot: a family gathers at their matriarch's deathbed to celebrate her last birthday. She has controlled the men in her family for decades, but long-buried secrets and resentments now come to the surface. The film stars Kristi Bardi, Sophie Brooke, Anna Calder-Marshall (pictured right) and Laurence Fox (pictured left). Hood's 2011 debut Wreckers starred Claire Foy and Benedict Cumberbatch.
