Rialto Channel's vlogger Francesca Rudkin spoke to filmmaker Alena Lodkina (pictured) about her film Strange Colours. Alena is a Russian-born filmmaker based in Melbourne, and one of an emerging generation of Australian experimental filmmakers. Her film follows psychology student Milena as she travels to a remote opal mining community to see her estranged, terminally ill father, one of many locals who live in hope of a huge rush of gems. While father and daughter struggle to overcome estrangement, his mining lease is disrupted by a mysterious thief.
