South Pacific Pictures' Head of Development Rachel Jean will take on a new role as a Senior Producer for the company in 2021.

Rachel took on the role of Head of Development in 2013 and oversaw the creation of a significant number of South Pacific Pictures' shows, including Westside for Three, The Brokenwood Mysteries for Prime, the award-winning comedy drama series 800 Words for the Seven Network in Australia and The Sounds for CBC in Canada.

She has also been the Executive Producer of several shows including two series of Forensics NZ, which screened to critical acclaim and excellent ratings in mid-2016 and 2018. More recently she launched a variety of shows: Educators for TVNZ OnDemand, and Mean Mums and Head High for Three.

The heavy demands of producing these shows has prompted the decision for Jean to step away from the Head of Development position.

"Producing several shows in the last couple of years has reminded me of my passion for the physical creation of shows and I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in and making more premium television for SPP," she says.

Rachel will begin her new role in January 2021 when she starts production on a second series of Head High.
