$35m project to transform Auckland Film Studios

Auckland Film Studios in Henderson has had a funding boost to the tune of $35 million - $30m from the Government and $5m from Auckland Council.

It would see two, 2000 square-metre sound stages built and the development of workshops and offices on site.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff said the new investment in film studios expands facilities to meet the international demand to make new screen content in Auckland, and would bring tens of millions in expenditure and jobs to the West Auckland area.

"Estimates are for up to 300 new production-related jobs and hundreds of indirect jobs in businesses across the city that support the film industry," he said.

The project was expected to be complete by August 2022.

Movies filmed at Auckland Film Studios include The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Xena: Warrior Princess and the Netflix flick Falling Inn Love.
