Deadline extended for AKL Write Room

There’s still time to submit to this wonderful opportunity - the deadline is now 5pm on 30 August 2021.

Write Room Auckland is a screenwriter residency and producer internship programme offered in partnership with Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga -The New Zealand Film Commission.

The inaugural Auckland Write Room programme aims to support diversity in our industry by focusing on writers and producers who identify with Māori, Pasifika, Pan-Asian or other under-represented ethnicities, those from the LGBTQI+ or disability communities.

Write Room Auckland will:

Support a screenwriter to develop their screenplay to the stage where it is ready to pitch to a producer.
Offer an opportunity for an emerging or established producer to upskill in development.

One writer and one producer will be selected to participate in the programme.

This year’s Write Room Auckland selectors and mentors are director Max Currie (Rūrangi, Everything We Loved), producer Karin Williams (SIS, Mou Piri: A Rarotongan Love Song, We Live By The River) and producer Vicky Pope (Savage, Gardening with Soul, Two Little Boys).

The selected writer will undertake a 12-week Auckland-based residency between 10 Jan and 31 March 2022 to complete a draft of their screenplay with the support of the Write Room mentors, and receive a stiped of $7500.

The selected producer intern will shadow the Write Room development process to upskill in key areas of project selection and development, and receive a $1500 stipend.
