We're thrilled to hear that Rebecca Tansley's short film The Finding has been selected for the DC Shorts International Film Festival in Washington DC next month.
The Finding follows a teenager’s efforts to reconnect with her estranged father and the dark secret in their past they are forced to confront. It stars the wonderful Matthew Sunderland and Dunedin-based newcomer Ruby Walton. It was shot it on 16mm film in Central Otago and Dunedin in between the 2020 lockdowns.
It's Rebecca's second short film as writer/director/producer, and follows her two feature documentaries Crossing Rachmaninoff and The Heart Dances and her recent film of a live opera, Semele. She is now just beginning work on a film of another live opera, Orpheus.
DC Shorts is the largest short film festival on the East Coast of the US – this year it selected 95 films from about 900 submissions.
