Got a funny podcast idea? RNZ needs some laughs!

Do you have a funny, humorous, amusing, or even downright hilarious idea for a podcast? RNZ would love to hear from you!

RNZ Podcasts is looking to commission a new, seasonal comedy podcast to produce and air in 2022. It should be bold, creative, audio-friendly and aimed at a younger audience than you’d normally associate with RNZ. And it should be funny. Laugh-out-loud funny.

Projects should be of a modest budget, approximately $50,000, and have the potential to continue beyond a single season.

This is a podcast that will be funded by and made in partnership with RNZ. You’ll be creating something special with support from New Zealand’s best podcast producers and audio engineers.

Since 2017 RNZ Podcasts has made more than 70 podcasts and won 45 awards at home and abroad. So who better to help you make that hilarious podcast you’ve always been so keen to make?

Fun fact: RNZ first broadcast comedy panel show Off the Wire, which evolved into Seven Days. So who knows where this might lead?

The content will be made available on new and existing RNZ platforms including all the usual podcast platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
Visual and social media elements are encouraged, as is a brief social media plan.

If you have a great idea but are new to the pitching process then some guidelines are available by emailing commissioning@rnz.co.nz.
