Headlands on the look-out for producers

Headlands is an anthology series of short films adapted from and inspired by the Aotearoan stories in Headlands: New Stories of Anxiety (VUP, 2018).

Writers who contributed to the book have partnered with proven emerging film makers, most of whom are female directors.

Ten films are now in advanced development. The plan is for five of them to go into production early in 2022.

Three of the directors, WIFT NZ members Nicky Cameron, Ella Hope-Higginson and Stella Reid are now looking for producers to team up with.

In Nicky's film Mrs Housewife (a partnership with the writer Holly Walker) motherhood is seen in two generations of the same family. Both women are trapped by expectations and struggle to cope with their roles.

Ella's film Worry People (in partnership with the writer Madeline Rodgers) follows a successful young teacher in training, on the cusp of becoming fully certified. But she has a secret - she hears voices. A mental health coming out story.

Stella’s film Let's Get Nervous (in partnership with the writer Eamonn Marra) takes place inside a stuffy green room during a comedy gig, where three men – an MC, an old-hand and a novice – wait backstage for their turn at the mic.

Nicky’s One Day premiered at Show Me Shorts 2018 and was selected for the Down Under Berlin festival in 2019.

Ella’s Waitress was in Someday Stories 2020.

Stella’s Drop Down Globe was in Someday Stories 2017.

Please contact Nicky, Ella or Stella directly if you are intersted in working with them on this project.

Nicky and Ella’s contact details are in the WIFT NZ members' directory (you need to be a WIFT NZ member and log in to access the directory)
