Let's hear it for Morag Brownlie, whose short film Perfect Storm was nominated in three categories in this year's CLIMAX film awards, based in Spain. The categories are Best Cinematography, Best Experimental Film, and Best Dance and Poetic.
The film, which screened in this year's NZIFF Ngā Whanaunga section, stars Pita Turei and was described by filmmaker and NZIFF curator Craig Fasi as “A landscape lullaby, evokes union between people, land, sea and sky.”
The film also received high praise in its review which ends with the words filmmakers love to hear!
"Through naturalistic photography, Morag Brownlie transports us to breathtaking landscapes capable of making us feel inexhaustible solitude, astutely conveying dreamlike sensations and the smallness of man in the immensity of the natural world, in shots reminiscent of the Oscar-winning The Power of the Dog (Campion, 2021). A triumph."
