Underwater Cinematography Masterclass

Calling all cinematographers! Here's your chance to gain experience filming underwater in this Masterclass with the experts. This course will appeal to Cam Ops and DPs who have a passion for this specialist field and wish to extend their knowledge; and camera assistants who want to up-skill around the technology involved.

The day will be broken into four modules exploring various aspects of the craft and will be held at an Auckland dive pool facility.

Specialist DP Murray Milne NZCS, will run a module exploring the use of underwater housings, the role of the topside 1st AC, and tips on filming drama, tvcs and music videos in an underwater environment with artificial lighting.

Boxfish Research experts will offer demonstrations and hands-on activity with their state-of-the-art "Luna" Remote Operated Vehicle, an invaluable tool where depth, safety and environmental factors make it the best choice for the job.

Hamish Kerr from Diveworx, Auckland will advise on safety diving aspects, underwater set construction, actor diving training, current regulations and certification, and diving compliance and coordination.

Mike Bhana will offer a perspective on natural history underwater cinematography drawing on his vast resume of productions for US channels including Discovery, Animal Planet and National Geographic. His documentary work has resulted in a dozen international awards for excellence.

Places will be limited to 15, so all can get a hands-on experience, and will be chosen from applications in advance.

Applicants are invited to e-mail a CV noting any underwater experience, mobile number, place of residence, and short letter of intent stating your interest and what you hope to get out of the course.

Cost: $180 NZCS member, $260 for non-members.
