The creative output from indigenous filmmakers during New Zealand's lockdowns has resulted in the strongest Māoriland Film Festival programme ever, according to Festival director Libby Hakaraia, so be sure to check out the programme and book your tickets!
It includes the te reo dubbed version of The Lion King, Dame Whina Cooper biopic Whina, and the premiere of te reo animated film Tama Kaiātea.
This year (its ninth) the MFF will showcase 106 films from 132 indigenous nations over five days during the Matariki period (June 29 – July 3). This year's Festival theme is He pitomata he pito ora – the potential of life.
