Watch NZ's first Jewish sitcom on TVNZ

The Aidee Walker-directed series Kid Sister is now on TVNZ On Demand! There are five episodes so you can binge-watch them all in a reasonably civilized manner! It's produced by Emily Anderton and executive produced by Harriet Crampton, of Greenstone TV, with Tammy Williams as DOP. There were a lot of women in other key roles on this production too: Donna Lui - 1st AD, Anna Coddington - composer, Stacey Ngawhika - locations manager, Sacha Young - costume designer, and Rachel Price line produced. Homai te pakipaki, that's what we like to see!

Described as a "female centered, female-led production that sheds light on some uniquely female experiences", the show is written by, and loosely based on the life of Simone Nathan, who also stars in the show.

Kid Sister follows Lulu Emanuel (Nathan), who has returned from the US and rekindled her relationship with old flame Olly (Paul Williams, Nathan’s real-life boyfriend).

Lulu keeps her romance with Olly a secret from her family who want her to follow tradition and marry within their faith. However, New Zealand’s pool of available Jewish men is not a deep one.

“It’s a Jewish story, and it’s also a Kiwi story, and the cross-section of that is very juicy,” Nathan told Stuff recently.
