Nominate a deserving Māori filmmaker for Te Aupounamu Māori Screen Excellence Award

Nominations are open for Te Aupounamu: Māori Screen Excellence Award, which recognises and celebrates members of the Māori film making community who have displayed a high-level of contribution and/or achievement in screen storytelling. Applications for this award are by nomination through the NZFC application portal. Anyone can submit a nomination, however, nominees must be Māori and actively participating in the film industry in New Zealand or overseas.

Te Aupounamu Māori Screen Excellence Award provides a $50,000 grant in recognition of the recipient’s significant contribution to the Māori screen industry. The grant is to be used to support the recipients’ professional development and projects.

Last year’s winner was WIFT member producer Desray Armstrong (Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti, Ngāti Porou). producer of Coming Home In The Dark, Juniper, and Millie Lies Low.

Nominations close 5 March 2023 and decisions will be published 17 March 2023.
