Exciting news for intrepid director Vanessa Wells, our Christchurch Board member! Her documentary The Climate Canary has been selected to pitch at the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) pitching event The FACTory in Melbourne, which runs from 5-8 March 2023.
Wells' documentary is executive-produced by WIFT member and Auckland Board member Jill Macnab.
Presented by VicScreen, The FACTory is AIDC’s centrepiece international pitching showcase for new documentary and factual projects.
Now in its eighth year, the flagship pitching event will feature project teams representing nine nations, with industry decision makers participating both in-person and virtually.
Selected by a panel of expert industry representatives for their quality stories, unique voices, and strong market potential, project teams will now present their work to a large contingent of national and international decision makers at AIDC 2023 – including funders, broadcasters, streamers, sales agents and distributors.
Wells and her team will pitch across the Central Showcase strand; the other strands are New Talent Showcase and Rough Cut Showcase.
The Climate Canary follows a team of scientists who discover subtle changes signalling huge challenges ahead for Antarctica and our global coastlines.
Wells was filming for The Climate Canary in Antarctica as recently as November 2022. Check out some of her work at elantimedia.com.
