Congratulations to producer Tara Riddell and the team behind the short film Hawaiki, which will have its world premiere In Competition at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
Written and directed by Nova Paul, the nine-minute film is about how the children of Okiwi School made a refuge they call Hawaiki, at the edge of their school playground close to the bush. Hawaiki has spiritual and metaphysical connections for Māori and the children create a space for their self-determination.
