Record number of women competed for Cannes top prize

There were a record seven women among the 21 entries in the competition at Cannes this year, reports The Washington Post, and Palme d'Or winner Justine Triet, who won for French crime drama Anatomy of a Fall, is only the third winner of that award, following Julie Ducournau in 2021 for Titane, and Jane Campion in 1993 for The Piano. The competitors included the only first-time filmmaker to make it into the main selection, Ramata-Toulaye Sy, the 36-year-old French Senegalese director of Banel & Adama.
