WIFT NZ members' doco enjoying run of international festivals

We're pleased to hear that A Boy Called Piano - The Story of Fa'amoana John Luafutu, directed by Nina Nawalowalo and produced by Katherine Wyeth, has been selected for the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival (July), and FIPA: Festival International Présence Autochtone (International First Peoples' Festival), in Montreal in August.

A Boy Called Piano - The Story of Fa'amoana John Luafutu has been screening at the Pasifika Film Festival, where its premiere sold out as the Pacific community reportedly came out in force to support the film.

On a side note, Fa’amoana Luafutu has been awarded Honorary MNZM in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

Katherine says this honour is "an incredible moment" in Fa'amoana Luafutu's journey. Fa'amoana Luafutu went from state ward to gang member to prisoner, then became an acclaimed playwright in partnership with the Conch. This partnership then led to becoming the lead witness in the Pacific Hearing of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care.
