Show Me Shorts Film Festival Winners Announced

A big congratulations to director Julie Zhu who took home the DEGANZ Best Director award for Lǎo Lao Lǎo Le, while her producing team of Jazz dos Santos, Puteri Raja Ariff, and Julie were also awarded the coveted Department of Post Best NZ Film, which is an Oscar-qualifying category. This gentle and heart-felt short film also jointly claimed the Toi Whakaari Best Actor award with 8-year-old actor Yan Lin (pictured) from Lǎo Lao Lǎo Le sharing the category with Prabha Ravi from Anu.

Congratulations also to Maza White whose film Daughter of God won Best Screenplay, and a shout out to Michelle Ang who was nominated for Best Actor and Best Director for her film Nai/Milk.

There were 17 short films nominated across eight award categories.

New Zealand’s largest short film festival kicked off on Friday. The films are now screening at cinemas nationwide until 29 October, and On Demand from 14 to 29 October.
