Homecoming is a short film being made in Ōtautahi Christchurch from emerging transgender writer/director Grae Meek, producer Anna Canton, line producer, Amanda Jenkins, and editor, Emma Smart, all proud WIFT members!
This is a psychological thriller about the anxieties of coming out to those you love - and perhaps, fear - the most. The film stars up-and-coming transgender actress Awa Puna in the lead role, alongside Lara MacGregor and Whare Mihinui as her parents.
This is a groundbreaking film for NZ screens with Grae’s transgender voice at the forefront of a story seldom told from a transgender lens on screen. “This is a very personal film for me. I've been in this kind of situation, felt these intense feelings, walked that mile, so to tell this kind of heartfelt and emotive story from a transgender perspective with a cutting, visceral edge to it is, I think, really powerful and unique.” - Grae Meek, Writer/Director
They are seeking support for their Boosted Campaign to get the last bit of funding. This is an opportunity to support a local film project from a community whose voice is so often marginalised on the big screen. Every little bit counts, and any donations large or small will help tell this thrilling, cinematic transgender story.
