Congratulations to WIFT member Lee Li for her win of Best One NZ Phone Short at the 2024 New Zealand Youth Film Festival for her short film, Living Out Loud: Reflection of Trans Visibility.
Living Out Loud examines the importance of transgender visibility and representation. Facing the backlash on Transgender Day of Visibility, two transgender advocates, Josh and Riley, risk their safety to promote transgender visibility and welfare. Through their journey, the documentary navigates the profound challenges faced by trans individuals, shedding light on their often-unseen world.

Lee Li is a transgender filmmaker, asylum seeker, advocate and Chinese diaspora, based in Aotearoa New Zealand. Drawing from her unique experience and duo-identity as trans asylum seeker, Li makes films that amplify the voice of the voiceless.
