'MARIMARI was and still is, an emotionally challenging but inspiring producing journey for me. There was a lot of care and thought put into the mahi required to bring Evelyn’s story to the big screen, including countless funding applications, pitches, meetings with potential funders and partners, and often lengthy discussions around the kaupapa of the story and the narrative. We had to take extra care in how the story was told, including representing the views of the survivors as well as perpetrators of sorcery violence – I learned a lot from editor extraordinaire Annie Collins on how a film like this needs to come together on the cutting floor. I also assembled an impact team to help us map out the outreach and outcomes we intend to achieve with the film, as we knew the story we tell must result in Evelyn getting the support she needs, so that she can continue to save lives.’ - Shu Run Yap, on her first producer credit.
