NZCS has announced a new category to spotlight Kiwi films in the annual cinematography awards.
They are introducing a split in the feature film category, designed to celebrate and recognise the unique challenges of working on both lower-budget feature films and on international giants. By separating this category into two, they equally honour the innovative spirit of cinematographers.
Introducing Category 12: Feature Films - Budget under $5m
This category is dedicated to feature films intended for Cinema and/or VOD release, crafted with a production budget of less than NZD$5 million (excluding “P&A” expenditures). Films eligible for this category may also opt to compete in Category 13, but not both simultaneously.
Introducing Category 13: Feature Films - Budget $5m and over
Recognising larger-scale productions with a budget of NZD$5 million or more (excluding “P&A” expenditures).
Both categories require a minimum duration of 50 minutes.
There is still time to submit! To enter, you must be a member of NZCS and the principal photographer of the entry, episode, or segment submitted. There is one exception: in the 'Specialised' category, operators may also enter. You are welcome to submit more than one production. If you are not currently a member, you may join before entering. Submissions close on 31 July 2024.
