After being approached by the creators’ folks from The Writer’s Lab, a prestigious program for women screenwriters over 40, Stephen Follows conducted a study to find out What percentage of movies are written by women over 40.
They looked at the age and gender of the people behind 38,803 writing credits, across 16,624 live-action fiction feature film and found: “12.4% of screenplay credits went to women over 40.” Finding that also over the same period men over 40’s screenwriting credits have increased from 42.8% to 66%.
While it’s nice to see that woman over 40 screenwriters has seen an increase, comparatively to that of men over 40, it’s dismal.
