Pākehā is a short film inspired by the true life events of writer and director Mana Hira Davis. The film is being produced by three wahine WIFT members: Sarah Oemcke, Melissa Mae, and Larissa Allen. They are representing the Bay of Plenty community, while committed to upskilling local crew and mentoring rangatahi with an interest in building a career in the screen industry!
The project is being filmed across 6-9 December. It is predominantly self-funded, with some support from WBOP Creative Communities Scheme and the generous donation of camera equipment by Imagezone. But they still need more help!
An inspiring story of a young pākehā mother learning Te Reo Māori to connect her son to his Māori heritage. Set against the backdrop of 1982 New Zealand, this film touches on themes of cultural reconciliation, mental health, resilience and aroha connecting us all as one people.
