Fringe Festival WIFTEEEEEES

Me, My Mother And Suzy Cato, Written and performed by WIFT member Florence Hartigan.

This darkly goofy one-woman play is a nostalgic journey through the era of Britney Spears and low rise jeans.

For 17-year-old Rachel, the promise of ringing in the year 2000 on a beach with her friends/love interest is the one thing helping her avoid the fact that she’s terrified about the future. So when her mother insists she greet Y2K in an apocalypse bunker her father’s built in their front garden, Rachel turns to the only rational adult she can think of - beloved children’s entertainer Suzy Cato.

Merely Beloved  by International Emmy Award Winner, and WIFT member Shoshana McCallum, aims to make you laugh at the loss of a loved one with her new one woman show.Elaine has just lost her beloved husband, Joe, to a heart attack which she may have accidentally caused. She should be devastated, maybe even a little guilty. And she would be if she could only stop thinking about Joe’s first wife, Jenny. And how Joe and Jenny are now both in heaven (or whatever the hell you believe in), together. Could Joe and Jenny get back together on the other side, and Elaine be merely a blip in their eternal true love story? Darkly hilarious, yet deeply affecting, Merely Beloved is a story about the only thing more devastating than death; love.

AltarNative, written and performed by WIFT member Acacia O’Connor.

Have you always thought there must be something more to life? That perhaps you are stuck in a cage but you just can’t see it? You might be right. And Acacia knows the answers. Growing up in guitar cases, on GE Free NZ buses, naked in the mud at folk festivals, attending both Montessori and Steiner schools, Acacia has had a taste of everything that isn’t mainstream and as a result is better than everyone else. She is now here to teach you her ways and save you from your mediocre existence
