SILO Theatre announces new Artistic Director

The Silo Theatre Trust Board have announced acclaimed Aotearoa screenwriter, theatremaker, actor, and WIFT member Sophie Henderson as its new Artistic Director! Congratulations Sophie.

Starting July 2025, Sophie will join Executive Director Tim Blake to co-lead Silo Theatre’s next four years of programming and strategic direction. Sophie has a long history with Silo, starring in iconic productions like The Writer, Belleville, and Private Lives, and making her professional debut with The Ensemble Project in 2007. "I love Silo — its artists, its work, its audiences. Silo has shaped my practice and career in ways I deeply value, instilling in me a drive for artistic excellence. Silo gave me my first job out of drama school, and I’m grateful for the chance to give back to a company that has given me so much," says Henderson.

Having previously spent five years programming Basement Theatre and supporting emerging voices, she brings a bold, artist-and-audience-rooted vision to Silo.  “Original work will be at the heart of my programming, alongside stories and performances that insist on being seen and shared." She is committed to developing the next generation of Aotearoa arts leaders across all areas of theatre-making.
