Rebate announcements

The New Zealand Government has reaffirmed its support for the International Screen Production Rebate, with Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis announcing a $577 million boost in Budget 2025. The total funding now rises to $1.09 billion over the forecast period, with no changes to the rebate’s current settings.

Speaking at Stone Street Studios on 16 May, Willis highlighted the scheme’s role in attracting investment, creating jobs, and driving economic growth, “we are sending a clear message to the world: New Zealand is the best place in the world to make movies. Bring your productions here to take advantage of our talent and locations." She also noted the sector currently supports around 24,000 workers and generates $3.5 billion in annual revenue. “The rebate scheme is working and we want New Zealand’s film industry to know the Government is backing them to grow into the future.”
