Vincent Burke Scholarship awarded

Congratulations to Joyce Wong, as the first-ever recipient of the Vincent Burke Scholarship for 2025, awarded and announced by SPADA earlier this month.

The Vincent Burke Scholarship aims to support the next generation of New Zealand producers by providing an annual grant of $5,000 to support the advancement of their projects, companies, or careers.

The judging panel was impressed by the outstanding calibre of applicants, making for a highly competitive selection process. Joyce stood out for her exceptional body of completed work, a compelling slate of projects in development, and her clear commitment to uplifting pan-Asian creatives and stories on screen.

Her dedication to building a sustainable and successful screen business alongside her creative endeavours exemplifies the spirit of the producer and aligns perfectly with the values behind this scholarship.

“I’m so thankful to receive the Vincent Burke Scholarship. It’ll help me get to overseas markets, build international connections, and bring new opportunities home to support New Zealand productions. I’m proud to represent my community and grateful to the judges and SPADA for believing in me. Although I never got to know Vincent, I believe his values reflect the ongoing support I’ve received in my short career, and it’s a true privilege to help carry on his legacy.”

We wish you the very best Joyce!
