WIFT NZ is deeply concerned by the government's recent amendments to the Equal Pay Act. The decision to discontinue current pay equity claims and introduce new barriers for future ones is a significant setback for gender equity in Aotearoa. The Equal Pay Act has been instrumental in addressing the structural undervaluing of women's work. Undermining its provisions threatens decades of progress toward fair and equitable treatment in the workplace.
We stand with other organisations advocating for equal pay and fair treatment, and we will continue to support our members by championing gender equality, visibility, and opportunity in the screen sector.
We, along with other unions have co-signed a petition to call on the Government to protect equal pay! https://www.together.org.nz/fbt_for_pay_equity
