Write Room is a screenwriter residency program offered in partnership with POP Film, Toi Pōneke Arts Centre and the Wellington City Council Aho Tini 2030 Arts, Culture and Creativity Strategy.  Write Room is now open for applications for two opportunities, a Film/TV producer Internship and a Screenwriter Residency:

Write Room Film/TV Producer Internship 2025 - Call for Applications:

This opportunity is for a Wellington based emerging or mid-career Film/TV Producer to shadow the process of selecting a screenwriter to undertake the residency to develop a draft of their feature film screenplay or TV series with the support of experienced industry mentors: director Rob Sarkies (Out of the Blue, Pike River, Scarfies) and Vicky Pope (Pike River, Went Up The Hill, Savage)

Write Room Screenwriter Residency 2026 – Call for Applications:

This opportunity is for a Wellington-based screenwriter hailing from film, television, web-series, theatre, radio, journalism or other literary backgrounds; with a feature film or TV series at a stage that will benefit from focused development over a seven month period, to complete a draft of the feature film script or pilot TV episode and bible, with the support of experienced mentors Rob Sarkies (Pike River, Out of the Blue, Scarfies) and Vicky Pope (Pike River, Went Up The Hill, Savage). You do not need a completed script to apply.

The aim of the programme is to support a writer to develop their work to a level where it can be pitched to a producer and secure further development funding and a pathway towards production.
