Scream Like a Girl: Honoring the Trailblazers of Horror
In celebration of Women’s History Month in the U.S, The George A. Romero Foundation (The GARF) is proud to bring back their campaign titled “Scream Like a Girl,” shining a spotlight on the incredible women who have shaped and continue to define the horror genre.
Throughout the month of March, The GARF will honor the fearless filmmakers, writers, actresses, producers, and creators who have made lasting contributions to the world of horror through social media features, exclusive merchandise, exciting contests and film discussion panels.
Highlighting Women Who Pushed the Boundaries of Fear
From pioneering early filmmakers and authors to contemporary icons, women have long played a critical role in crafting some of the most chilling, thought-provoking, and boundary-pushing works of horror. The GARF’s campaign will shine a light on both the iconic figures of the past and the rising stars currently carving new paths in the genre. Each week, The GARF will highlight different women who have had a lasting impact on horror through engaging social media posts, in-depth profiles, and quotes that showcase their unique influence.
Contests and Engagement
The GARF is holding its second short film contest where women and nonbinary creators and filmmakers will be able to submit their short films on FilmFreeway. A virtual panel will be held March 20th at 7pm in the that will be moderated by the late George A. Romero’s daughter, Director Tina Romero. Women and nonbinary creators can also showcase their talent by submitting horror-inspired art, writing and music. A Blackmagic Design Pocket Pro Camera 6k will be awarded to the best overall film.
Exclusive Merchandise
To commemorate this celebration, The GARF is bringing back their limited-edition Women in Horror merchandise, featuring an original design from The George A. Romero Foundation’s artist in residence, Ryan Carr. From T-shirts and hoodies to posters and mugs, each piece will celebrate the diverse contributions of women across the horror landscape.
Join the Conversation
Throughout March, join The GARF in honoring these remarkable women by following their campaign on social media, where they will be sharing insightful content, celebrating the contributions of these trailblazers, and encouraging fans to share their favorite women in horror with the hashtag #WIHScreamLikeaGirl.
