DEGANZ: Ethics in Factual Filmmaking

Factual filmmaking is all about telling real people's stories on screen, but how do you balance truth, wellbeing, and entertainment in these spaces?

To dig deeper into this topical discussion, DEGANZ has brought together four factual filmmakers to discuss their approaches to unscripted projects.

Join us for this two-hour panel discussion "Ethics in Factual Filmmaking" with:

  • Cushla Dillon (No Māori Allowed; The Price of Peace; Topless Women Talk About Their Lives)
  • Rāhera Herewini-Mulligan (Hīkina Te Manuka; Ariki; Moving Out with Kanoa)
  • Leanne Pooley (The Girl on the Bridge; Dame Valerie Adams: More than Gold; Choir Games)
  • Kim Webby (The Price of Peace; Home, Land, & Sea; Passengers; My Cyclone Gabrielle: Lifeline)
  • Facilitated by director, producer and past DEGANZ President
Robyn Paterson (Wheel Blacks: Bodies on the Line, In The Zone).

With producers, directors, and editors on the panel, this workshop will explore the importance of ethical factual filmmaking across the entire production timeline.
