FutureFrames:NZ AI Short Film Competition - Entries Open

Aotearoa New Zealand's first-ever hybrid AI short film competition FutureFrames:NZ has officially launched, and entries are now open until 10 May.

Made possible with support from NZFC, NZ on Air, Screen Auckland, SAE, and APRA AMCOS, FutureFrames:NZ invites filmmakers at any stage of their career to explore hybrid filmmaking, with human storytelling at the centre and AI as one of the tools in the kit.

Entrants will have access to a series of free online industry-led workshops covering what AI tools are available, what works (and what doesn't), and the ethics of AI use in screen production. Films will be judged on the strength of their story. This is about education, conversation, and creativity, not replacing human craft.

The prizes are seriously good:

  • $5,000 cash
  • Entry to BSS
  • A full sound and music post-production polish
  • Support to enter 50+ AI short film competitions around the globe

The winning film will become Aotearoa New Zealand's first NZFC-supported AI short film to compete on the international stage.

Diverse participants from across the motu are warmly encouraged to enter.
