The Whickers was established in 2015 to fund and recognise original and innovative documentaries. Over the past several years they set out to find the true cost of creating documentaries in today’s world. They have created the Cost of Docs surveys since 2016. Their partners are Sheffield DocFest and Al Jazeera.
They follow emerging trends and provide data about the effect of major events on the documentary industry, such as the cost-of-living crisis and global conflicts.
The report is used by academics and documentary organisations across the globe, such as the University of The West of England UK, Durban University, Stockholm University of The Arts and the UK’s Film and TV Charity.
