WIFT NZ Member Romy Hooper was the 2025 winner of the CinemaStreet Women's Short Screenplay competition with her short film The Gap - the first time a Kiwi has EVER won this award - and now Hooper is on a mission to turn that screenplay into a film.
Romy is now working to raise the funds necessary for her half of the production budget so the project can be made next year in NEW YORK CITY! 🤩🥳
The screenplay is based on a man called the 'Angel of the Gap' who spent his retirement talking people down from the notorious cliff in Sydney, so there's a suicide prevention theme and a solid message of hope for change through the little things people do for each other.
Hooper is aiming to shoot in New York City next year - a bold move for sure - but one she's sure she can achieve with a little help from the kiwi filmmaking community.
Here is the link to Romy's Boosted campaign: here you can watch her video, see the donation page and donate if you're able. Every little bit helps, from $5 to $50 and beyond (and remember, donations are tax-deductible 😉)
