Community Film Challenge: Filmmaker Registrations Close August 20th 2026

COMMUNITY FILM CHALLENGE:  FILMMAKER REGISTRATIONS CLOSE 20TH AUGUST

Wellington filmmakers: Make a film. Build your portfolio. Great Stories. Real Impact.

Wellington filmmakers are being invited to put their creative skills to work for good in the inaugural Community Film Challenge; a filmmaking competition pairing local creative teams with charities to make short films that have a real-world impact.

Filmmaking teams will be matched with a local charity, develop a concept and the new weekend shoot and edit a short film, and premiere their work at the Embassy Theatre.

There’s more than just bragging rights on the line, with more than $12,000 in prizes across a range of award categories, including cash, gear hire and spot prizes for filmmakers and their charity partners.

Get involved:

Filmmakers can register as a duo, an existing crew, or as a team from an agency or production house, any combination that works. This is a great excuse to collaborate with some of your favourite creative collaborators on a project with a quick turnover. Tertiary film students aged 18+ can also register to join a team as a runner/intern, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on production experience and make industry connections.

Filmmaker registrations close 20 August 2026.
