Grounds for Action: Crowdfunding Campaign Launched

Tākitimu Films and View Road are thrilled to announce the completion of development on their powerful new 30-minute documentary debut Grounds For Action.

The production team is now seeking community support through a vital crowdfunding campaign to cover post-production costs and ensure these inspiring Southern New Zealand stories reach a national audience.

Grounds For Action dives deep into the personal sacrifices and relentless drives of everyday New Zealanders who have become the front line in the fight for environmental and social change. Set against the breathtaking landscapes of the lower South Island, the film follows an eclectic group of "undercover warriors"—including first responders, scientists, and retirees—as they navigate cultural barriers and commercial pressures to protect the places they love.

The film is produced by Wifites Janine Kubiak (Tākitimu Films) and Hayley Lye (View Road), the documentary showcases three distinct and urgent narratives of Kiwi ingenuity and grit:

  • Sea Nest: Co-founders Bryony and Waka Miller introduce a revolutionary, scalable invention designed to restore degraded marine ecosystems, offering practical solutions for biodiversity and climate adaptation.
  • Deer to Care: Co-founders Wesley Baratcart, Stu O’Neill, and Tim Cook transform a local environmental challenge (wild deer) into a brilliant social good, providing food security for New Zealanders in need.
  • Save the Otago Peninsula (S.T.O.P): Led by Lala Frazer, Moira Parker, and Duncan Ross, this segment highlights the multi-generational commitment required, looking back 40 years to their historic fight against an aluminium smelter at Aramoana and their work to secure the future of the Otago Peninsula.

The funding will go toward location transport costs, upgrading editing software, equipment hire, and marketing. If funding exceeds the targeted amount, they may even be able to contract a qualified sound recordist which would be brilliant!!
