Jacinda Ardern Documentary "Prime Minister" Wins at the 2026 Emmy Awards

Prime Minister, the documentary about former New Zealand Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern has won the prize for best documentary at the 2026 News & Documentary Emmy Awards.

The production also took home the award for outstanding politics and government documentary.

The film's Executive Producer, Cass Avery is longtime WIFT NZ member and told StopPress:

“This is an incredibly proud moment for our team and for Aotearoa creativity,” says Avery.

“In a world saturated with content, people are looking for work that feels emotionally truthful. We’ve always believed life delivers beautiful and important moments, and that’s what we set out to capture with Prime Minister. Something intimate, human and universally relatable.”

Avery adds: “This isn’t just a win for one film. It’s proof that New Zealand creativity can stand alongside the very best in the world and that stories made here have genuine global impact.”

Cass already has many treasured awards in her trophy cabinet, including (of course) this year's coveted South Pacific Pictures Award for Achievement in Film at the 2026 WIFT Awards.
