REMINDER: Air NZ Battery Waiver

A reminder for you all about the WIFT NZ Air NZ battery waiver which we offer to film crews who are travelling. It is very helpful especially for camera people and sound recordists who have to travel with more batteries that are typically allowed on a flight.

Here is what is approved:

Spare Batteries, Power banks

A total of 60 per person, subject to the following limits:

  • only 2 power banks not exceeding 100Wh per person
  • only 2 spare lithium ion batteries between 100Wh-160Wh or lithium metal batteries not exceeding 2g of lithium content per person
  • only 2 non-spillable batteries not exceeding 12V and 100Wh per person

Devices containing a lithium-ion battery exceeding 100Wh but not exceeding 160Wh

Some conditions:

  • This is for Air New Zealand flights only
  • The batteries must be packed and stored according to regulations
  • You must present this waiver along with a valid WIFT membership card
  • The batteries must be checked by an Air New Zealand representative

Here is the link to the document, which can be found on the resources page on our website.

This waiver is valid until 31st December 2026, and we aim to have it renewed every year.
