The Wairarapa Cinémathèque is back for 2026

The Wairarapa Cinémathèque is back for 2026, with a brand-new monthly film programme bringing classic and important cinema to audiences in the region. Screenings are held on the first Sunday of every month at 7.30pm at Regent 3 Cinemas in Masterton.

The programme has been curated by wonderful Wiftie Jane Ross in partnership with the local community, who help vote on the annual screenings, and alongside wonderful national and international cultural partners.

One example is the upcoming screening of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1927) which is presented in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut New Zealand.

The next screening is on:

Sunday 5 April – 7.30pm

Metropolis (1927) directed by Fritz Lang

Regent 3 Cinemas, Masterton

It falls on Easter Sunday and the weekend Daylight Saving ends, so it will be a cosy evening for cinema lovers.

In addition, the Wairarapa Film Festival has some very exciting news coming soon, including a new name and a rebrand with Jane curating and presenting the festival.

Headlining filmmaker is Annie Goldson, with screenings of Georgie Girl and Red Mole, and she will also be presenting a masterclass. Red Mole will also be a fundraising screening for local access radio station, Arrow FM.

Jane Ross will premiere her first short documentary film as director and producer, By Hand, which she has worked passionately to bring to life with an incredible crew.

Memberships for the Wairarapa Cinémathèque are available HERE via Humanitix (short-term or full-year 2026 options), and members and visitors from across the region are welcome.
