Wairarapa Cinematheque
How GREAT is this? A brand new initiative for film fans in the Wairarapa and Wellington region — The Wairarapa Cinematheque, Masterton’s new film cinematheque.
It’s been created for people who love cinema and want to experience timeless films the way they were meant to be seen — on the big screen, in the company of fellow film fans.
Over a three-month trial season, a carefully chosen film is shown on the last Sunday of each month at 7:30pm at Regent 3 Cinemas, Masterton. From iconic classics to rediscovered gems and cult favourites, the Cinematheque is a chance to step into the magic of the movies, share the experience with others, and celebrate storytelling through film.
How it works:
First up is Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece Rear Window (1954) on Sunday 28 September at 7:30pm. It’s a stylish, edge-of-your-seat masterpiece about a photographer stuck in his apartment who thinks he’s witnessed a murder in the building opposite… and what happens when curiosity turns dangerous. Even 70 years later, it’s gripping, glamorous, funny, and clever — a film that absolutely deserves to be seen on the big screen.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the local community to come together and enjoy great cinema right in the beating heart of Masterton and we’d love loca members to dive in, and to spread the word!
The founder of the Wairarapa Cinematheque and also director of the Wairarapa Film Festival is Wiftie Jane Ross and she has some more great news from the region - the Wairarapa Film Festival, which she founded in 2021, has been named a Finalist in the Vibrant Category of the Wairarapa Awards: Brava for film!!
