Film Power 100 List vs. BlackmanVisions 100 Film Power List

Posted Tuesday 05 Oct 2010

The Guardian.co.uk recently released compiled a list ranking the 100 most powerful people in film. The list ranks James Cameron at number one and does not rank any women in the top ten in fact the first woman to feature on the list is Angelina Jolie at number eighteen.

According to the Guardian the list "is not a guide to the richest people in film, or the ones with the greatest green-lighting power, or the most prolific. It's Film & Music's attempt to determine who wields the greatest influence on which films you get to see when you go to the cinema on a Saturday evening, or turn on the TV to catch a movie. Our definition of power is this: the ability to shape the experience of film viewing in the UK. That means it's not just a list of British film figures. Nor is it a run-through of Hollywood moguls: everyone on our list has to have demonstrable influence within the UK."

In response to the Guardian's list BlackmanVision, a producer of award-winning experimental film projects which fuse fiction and documentary genres in order to remember and re-vision what has been forgotten, has compiled it's own 100 Film Power List in no particular order. According to BlackmanVision, "each and every person/organization has their value and worth. Power is not just about money and box office; it is also about contributing to a wider important film and culture debate." Please visit the BlackmanVision website to see who they have featured on their list.
